On the harbour front at the Darse, feet almost in the sand. The bouillabaisse needs ordering forty-eight hours ahead and arrives in a boat; otherwise oysters and whatever came in that morning.

Tiny, run by a couple, the fish landed by her husband that morning. Lunch only most days. The oysters are the reason to go.

Red volcanic rock above turquoise water, hidden coves accessible only on foot. The path to Pointe de l’Aiguille is around 3–4km with two excellent swimming stops.

A headland of red rock and small coves kept out of the developers’ hands. Steep down, easier back up by the other path. Clear enough to snorkel. Open from half seven.

Two small rocky coves either side of a point, with jumps from three metres up to fifteen for those who want them. Bring goggles and something on your feet.

The best-equipped of the coves, with toilets, showers and a restaurant. A kilometre walk from the parking. Very rocky underfoot, so swim shoes are not optional.

Red cliffs and clear water between Théoule and Saint-Raphaël, reachable from Le Trayas station. No facilities at all, so bring water. There is a naturist section.

A small sandy beach in a protected bay with a swimming platform out in the water and lifeguards in season. The easiest swim on this stretch with children.
