Nice Airport to Cannes
Five ways in. Which one is right depends on your luggage, the hour, and whether you are alone.
Nice Côte d'Azur is the airport for Cannes, about 27km east along the coast. There is no direct train from the terminal, which is the single thing that catches people out, and it is why the bus is usually the right answer despite feeling like the humble option. What follows is every route, honestly compared, by people who do it several times a year.
The express bus, line 81
The simplest option and the one we use. It runs from both terminals directly to Cannes, takes roughly fifty minutes, and costs a few euros. Buy on board or from the machine. Luggage racks on board. It runs roughly every half hour through the day and less often in the evening, so check the last departure if you are landing late. If you are two people with normal suitcases, this is the answer.
The train, via Nice-Ville or Saint-Augustin
There is no station in the terminal. You take the tram two stops to Nice Saint-Augustin, then the TER west to Cannes, around half an hour. Cheap, and pleasant along the coast, but it means two changes with your bags. Worth it if you like trains and travel light. Not worth it with children or a case each.
Taxi
Around forty minutes without traffic and considerably more in July, August or during festival weeks. Fares to Cannes are substantial and fixed rates apply on some routes; agree the fare before you set off. The rank is outside both terminals. Simple, and the most expensive door-to-door option.
Pre-booked transfer
A private car booked in advance. Costs less than a taxi for the same journey, the driver waits if the flight is late, and you are not negotiating anything at midnight. This is what we suggest to guests arriving after ten in the evening or with more than two cases.
Driving
The A8 runs the whole way and takes about half an hour outside peak. The real question is not the drive but the parking: central Cannes is dense and street parking is close to impossible in season. If you are staying in the centre for under a week, you will spend more on parking than the car saves you. Come without one unless you plan to explore the hinterland.
Arriving late
The last bus leaves earlier than most people expect and the trains thin out too. If you land after ten, book a transfer before you fly. It is the one journey where planning ahead is worth real money.
